Petanque Australia Ltd is the peak administrative body of Petanque in Australia. Its membership is made up of an elected executive, representing more than 40 individual club affiliations across Australia.
Its charter is to administer and promote the game in Australia according to the International Rules as set out by the Federation Internationale de Petanque et Jeu Provencal (FIPJP).
The current executive includes President Andre Deramond (Victoria), Secretary Richard Tarlinton (Victoria), Treasurer Diane Yeomans (Victoria), Robin Anderson (Western Australia), Danielle Perombelon (NSW), Sylvia Btt and Tim Whelan (South Australia).
Petanque, or boules, originated in southern France and is played by more than 600,000 registered players worldwide, with an estimated participation rate of more than 10 million social players. Additionally there are literally millions of social boules players with a “box of boules in their car boot”, ready to play when the opportunity arises.
There more than 1,200 registered Petanque players within Australia, playing in 47 affiliated clubs (Queensland 5 clubs, New South Wales 11 clubs, Victoria 16 clubs, South Australia 8 clubs, Western Australia 6 clubs and Tasmania 1 club). Family members, social players and friends expand this sphere of influence to at least 7,000 individuals and there is a further “halo” effect from passers by, tourists and ‘locals’ at all organised events.
Petanque Australia Ltd endorses National competition, International competition and Interstate competitions together with a series of club and regional based events throughout the year.
